What is a Young Apprenticeship?
The Young Apprenticeship Programme (YA) is a small scale, high quality vocational programme for hard-working and motivated 14-16 year olds. It is available across the whole of West Sussex in the following five industry sectors:
Engineering
Motor Vehicle
Sport
Construction
Business and AdministrationAll students on the YA are on track to get at least 5 GCSEs, and want to pursue a career in their chosen sector.
Once on the programme, students go to college one day a week to follow a relevant level 2 course and also undertake 50 days work experience over the 2 years.
How you can get involved
All our Young Apprentices are keen to get out into the workplace to learn about their chosen sector. Their work experience can be structured in a number of ways:
Blocks: students come to work for a block of 5-10 days in a row over the 2 years
Day Release: students come to work for one day a week for the 2 years
Your company may wish to offer one YA the full 50 days work experience, or several YAs a number of block placements. The YA Programme is designed for employers, and it should meet your needs.
Anthony Grice, a Business and Administration Young Apprentice has been put forward for the LSC YA of the Year Award in recognition of his hard work over the last 2 years. The winner will be announced at the LSC Awards ceremony to be held at Gatwick's Copthorne Hotel on the 20th May, hosted by Claudia Winkleman.
