St Anthony's are the Champions

St Anthony’s were invited to take part in The Consumer Challenge Quiz 2010, a Sussex regional event, organised by West Sussex County Council and East Sussex Trading Standards team, to help raise awareness of consumer issues in a fun and exciting way. Mrs Chapman organised a school team consisting of Melissa Butcher, Georgina Carpenter, Thomas Spiers and Jamie McNamara.

On a cold and sunny day, Mrs Chapman, Mrs Humphreys and the team with their school mascot made by the girls, set off to Brighton Race Course for the event. On arrival the venue was buzzing with excitement as lots of other school and college students greeted us. Following a welcome from the organisers we settled at our table for the first set of quiz questions. Nervous but focused our team got off to a great start answering all the questions correctly which spurred them on to tackle the next round. Each round focused on a new topic and as the competition progressed our team became serious competitors. Five rounds later and with only two questions wrong, we awaited the results. It was a tense moment as the organisers tallied up the scores.

Finally, St Anthony’s were announced as the winners with 28 points out of 30. Everyone cheered and clapped. Our team were leaping with joy. St Anthony’s were the champions with 5 points in the lead of the second place.  When the cheering stopped the awards began and the other teams were called to receive their certificates. Lastly our proud competitors were called to the front where they were awarded a beautiful glass trophy, certificates and a golden medal. They were also given a backpack containing treats and tickets to visit the Sealife Centre in Brighton. St Anthony’s had won the Sussex Regional Final and invited to attend the National Final held in Edinburgh, Scotland. A very proud team returned to school to tell the good news. Georgina said ‘I just knew we would win’, Jamie agreed ‘Can we really go to Edinburgh?’ he asked. Melissa said ‘It was brilliant’. Thomas said ‘Edinburgh’s fantastic, I can’t wait’. Mr Griffin gave a special assembly to congratulate our winners on their excellent achievement. Look out Edinburgh, here we come!
