Rubbish Instruments
Using discarded materials including empty coffee tins, curtain rings and cigar tubes, students designed various percussion instruments which were created to form a band. Further time will be spent on developing and decorating them.
The group will also be working with Sussex Academy of Music based in Shoreham by Sea to learn the skills to play their instruments.
The Diplomas are new industry based courses designed to give students a broad understanding of business and have been developed with businesses within each sector. They offer students a very different way of learning “It’s great! We’ve only had a few lessons so far, but we can get much more involved which makes it really interesting” said one student.
Jacqui Scerri, from the Education Business Partnership who set up the workshop said “Getting students involved with local business is crucial to ensure they get a complete picture of the world of work. During this event, students have developed lots of skills including team work, problem solving and time management – skills that business tell us they want our young people to have.
