Teachers swop school for building site

Teachers from across Sussex took advantage of visiting a new Tesco superstore while it was being built recently.

The day, organised and supported by Kier Construction and West Sussex EBP gave teachers the opportunity of seeing the site first hand, speak with professionals including the Project Manager, Quantity Surveyor and the Design and Build Manager, and even have a go at brick laying.

Teachers attending were thrilled with the event, saying that information gathered would be used back in the classroom to enhance their students’ learning experience.

Jacqui Scerri, EBP Co-ordinator said :
"Business involvement is a crucial element of students’ education.  Their participation adds realism and relevance to the classroom and their commitment to work with schools and colleges is always appreciated. It's just as important to ensure teachers' skills are updated and this event does just that.  The information gained will be used back in the classroom to support students' learning.  Input from companies like Kier, ensures that students are able to see how what they learn in class relates directly to business."

Many productive links were established – with further input from both Kier and Tesco - to ensure students acquire up to date information to support their courses.
